Sheridan's wrestling team showed a strong start to the season, earning a second-place finish among 19 teams Saturday at the Cambridge Invitational.
The Generals fell three points shy of the team title, which was won by Minverva with 194 1/2 points. Sheridan, which had seven wrestlers finish with just one loss, finished at 191 1/2.
Ethan Kehn (120), Cayne Bennett (138), R.J. Waugh (182), Devin King (220) and Evan Loughman (285) all posted second-place finishes for Sheridan, which had 11 placers in all.
Kehn, who finished 4-1, dropped a 7-3 decision to Minvera's Justin Campbell.
Bennett fell 22-11 to Canal Fulton Northwest's Justin Smith, while Waugh lost a tough 3-2 decision to Licking Valley's Nate McCown. King was pinned in 5:58 by Canal Winchester's Max Lacey, and Loughman lost 5-1 to Doylestown Chippewa's Zack Srock.
Darrin Scott was third at 195, Drew Stebelton fourth at 145, Ryan Eversole sixth at 160 and Zach Carpenter seventh at 132 for the Generals.
Millersburg West Holmes was third (162 1/2), followed by Canal Fulton Northwest (162), Lisbon Beaver Local (158), Licking Valley (124 1/2), Doylestown Chippewa (121 1/2), Morgan (119), Belpre (113) and Cambridge (101).
