TU girls tennis secures share of EYL crown

The Tulare Union Redskins earned at least a share of the East Yosemite League girls tennis championship with a 5-4 win over the Tulare Western Mustangs on Wednesday.

Tulare Union completed the EYL slate with a 9-1 league record.

The Redskins could capture the outright league title if Porterville defeats Monache today. Porterville leads the match 4-2 when play was suspended because of darkness. Monache needs to win all three doubles matches today to forge a tie with Tulare Union for the league title.

Tulare Union won four of the six singles matches against Tulare Western. Coming out victorious for Tulare Union were (scores in parentheses): Asia Boatman [7-5, 7-6 (7-3)], Radhika Shah (4-6, 6-1, 12-10), Kasi Bergman (6-2, 6-3) and Kayla Lorenzo (7-5, 6-2).

Tulare Western (5-5 in EYL) received singles wins from Sierra Hall (4-6, 6-4, 10-6) and Katie Marsh (7-5, 6-4).

Shah and Erica Rodriguez paired up for the Redskins' lone doubles win to secure the team victory. Aaliyah Phillips and Chelsea Bell won their doubles match for Tulare Western, as did the duo of Isabella Benedetti and Roslyn Rhoades.


Mission Oak 3, Porterville 0: The Hawks received 13 kills and four digs from Mashelle Muratalla in their East Yosemite League win over the Panthers.

Misison Oak improved to 5-1 in league.

Alexis Kendrix added 11 kills and five digs, Cara Pilgrim had six kills and two aces and Aubrey VanSickel had four kills and two aces to help lead the Hawks.

Tulare Union 3, Monache 1: The Redskins improved to 5-1 in the East Yosemite League with a victory over the Marauders.

Tulare Union received a 17-kill performance from Taylor Slover to stay in a first-place tie in the EYL.

Julia Ruiz and Hannah Pedersen each added nine kills, Jordanna Guy had six kills and Kyndra Sartuche added 10 digs to help lead the Redskins.

Tulare Union will host Delano in another EYL contest on Tuesday.

CVC 3, Dinuba 0: The Cavaliers cruised to a 25-11, 25-19, 25-4, Central Sequoia League win over the Emperors.

Sky Griffin had 23 assists and 13 digs, Taylor Van Den Berg added 12 kills, and Cobi Roeloffs added eight kills.

Exeter 3, Selma 0: The Monarchs cruised to a 25-9, 25-6, 25-7 Central Sequoia League win over the Bears.

Cidney Atkins had 11 kills and eight aces, Melissa Vernon finished with seven kills, Ryan Capps had five kills, and Kelley Daley finished with four kills.

Jacque Hutcheson added 27 assists, four kills and four aces and Allie Fry chipped in with five blocks and four kills.

The Monarchs improved to 5-1 and 21-4 overall.
