ROUNDUP: Rangel sets Lindsay record to give Strathmore first ESL loss

Jannely Rangel set a Lindsay school record for goals scored in a single season with her 38th and 39th goals as the Cardinals gave Strathmore its first East Sequoia League loss of the season.

The previous record of 38 goals in a season was set by Rangel's cousin, Brenda Rangel, in 2005.

Lindsay (12-10, 6-1) is now in position to win a share of the league title with Strathmore (13-6, 6-1).

Tulare Union 5, Delano 0: Kaitlyn Sartuche scored two goals as the Redskins beat the Tigers in an EYL game.

Breanne Martinho scored a goal and assisted two others for Tulare Union (14-6-4, 6-0-1). Lynzee Gilliland and Mariah Costa each scored once as well.

Tulare Westen 5, Porterville 1: Haley Dewitt-Martinez recorded three assists and the Mustangs defeated the Panthers in an East Yosemite League game.

Anyssa Dominguez finished with two goals and one assist, Courtney Camara had two goals and Kamryn Berry added one goal.

Goalkeeper Rachel Costa finished with two saves.

Tulare Western (14-3-2, 6-1) plays at Mission Oak on Friday.

Mission Oak 2, Monache 0: Liz Cui and Gabby Marquez each scored as the Hawks beat the Maurauders in an EYL game in Porterville.

Boys Soccer

Mission Oak 2, Monache 1: The Hawks gave the Maurauders their first loss in EYL competition with a 2-1 win Wednesday night in Tulare.

Justin Herrera scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick for the Hawks (10-8-1, 3-4). He also assisted the first goal scored by Sal Palomino.

"This is the push we needed to finish strong and make a run in the playoffs," Mission Oak head coach Jaime Chavez said.

The Maurauders (15-3-1, 5-1-1) entered the game ranked No. 3 in the Valley by MaxPreps. They are the defending EYL champion.

Tulare Western 2, Porterville 1: Daniel Hernandez scored in the 78th minute and the Mustangs defeated the Panthers in an EYL game.

Hernandez also scored the first goal for Tulare Western on an assist from Alexis Hernandez.

The Mustangs (9-7-4, 4-2-1) will play Mission Oak on Friday. They need just one more win to clinch a playoff berth.

Boys Basketball

Mission Oak 87, Delano 41: Blake Shannon scored 27 points as the Hawks remained undefeated in EYL play with a win over the Tigers in Tulare.

Austin Molezzo added 17 points for Mission Oak (19-3, 5-0). Bobby Alvarado scored 14.

Woodlake 56, Granite Hills 44: Jaykob Rodriguez scored 16 points and the Tigers defeated the Grizzlies in an East Sequoia League game.

Armando Martinez added seven assists, Marcelo Silva and Jacob Castillo had nine rebounds, and Eli Cunningham added eight rebounds.

Woodlake (7-12, 3-2) plays Strathmore on Friday.

Girls Basketball

Tulare Western 39, Tulare Union 26: Frankie Vasquez and Kendra Wilkerson each scored 12 points as the Mustangs beat the Redskins in an EYL game.

Melissa Walle led Tulare Union (16-9, 3-2) with 17 rebounds. Wilkerson grabbed 13 boards.

Binny Bhakta (10), Arlene Alexander (9) and Na'Chelle Terry (7) were the only scorers for Tulare Union (12-10, 2-3).

Lindsay 61, Strathmore 23: Ashley Baker and Christina Castro each scored 17 points as the Cardinals beat the Spartans in an ESL game.

Lindsay (15-6, 5-0) remians undefeated in ESL competition. Vianay Gonzalez led Strathmore (8-14, 3-2) with eight points.

Woodlake 53, Granite Hills 45: Regina Ramirez scored 22 points and the Tigers defeated the Grizzlies in an East Sequoia League game.

Erika Edwards added 21 points for Woodlake (8-10, 2-3).


El Diamante 53, Golden West 13: Ten Miners won matches during a West Yosemite League dual win against the Trailblazers.

El Diamante's Michael Bennedetta (152) avenged his Central Valley Invitational (hosted by Golden West) loss to Golden West's Paul Hansen with a narrow 9-8 victory.

Ivan Aguirre (106), William McDarment (126), Ashton Demaree (145), Enrique Padilla (170) and Brandon McCuen (182) all pinned their opponents for El Diamante. Adam Yruegas (132) won by a technical fall. Anthony Aguirre (113), Roque Ortiz (195) and Jose Rangel (285) all won by point decisions.

For Golden West, Chris Williams (120) won 8-7 over Jacob Delgado, who was wrestling above his weight. Ira Meras (138) won by a major decision, 16-8.

JC Women's Basketball

College of the Sequoias 50, Porterville 40: Dawn Alves scored 15 points - on five 3-pointers - and the Giants defeated the Pirates in a Central Valley Conference game.

Emily Fechner added 10 points for COS.

The Giants finished the first half of the conference season with a 4-2 record. They are 12-8 overall.
