The Mission Oak Hawks would love nothing more than to emulate the success of their crosstown rivals, the Tulare Union Redskins and the Tulare Western Mustangs, when it comes to East Yosemite League girls soccer prowess.

Mission Oak has suffered some tough learning lessons from Tulare Union and Tulare Western in trying to attempt to climb the EYL ladder.

But there may be signs that the Hawks are more than capable of giving the EYL powerhouses a run for their money.

Mission Oak and Tulare Union battled to a 1-1 tie Thursday at Mission Oak High School.

"This is a big step forward for our program," Mission Oak coach John Pimentel said. "I told the team, 'We have to take care of our house, and not lose any (league) games at home. We can't afford to lose to Union and Western at home. Hopefully, we can steal a game here or there on the road."

Mission Oak (8-5-3, 2-1-1) had lost its previous five matches to Tulare Union by a combined 23-4 score.

Mission Oak's Liz Cui scored in the 76th minute on a penalty kick to tie the game. The Redskins scored in the second minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Tulare Union (11-6-4, 3-0-1) has a 41-match EYL unbeaten streak. The Redskins' last EYL loss was a 3-0 defeat to Tulare Western on Jan. 29, 2010.

Lindsay 4, Farmersville 2: Jannely Rangel scored three goals and the Cardinals defeated the Aztecs in a nonleague match.

Kayla Camargo scored Lindsay's (6-10) other goal.
