High School Roundup: Trujillo takes 4th at Central Section girls golf tournament

Redwood's Christina Trujillo earned a spot in the CIF Southern California regional girls golf tournament with a strong showing at the Central Section Championships Monday at Kings Country Club in Hanford.

Trujillo finished fourth with a 77, allowing her to advance to the Nov. 8 regional tournament in Murrietta.

Mission Oak's Hannah Price finished in a tie for 12th place with an 86. Price just missed out in earning a spot in the regional tournament. The top 12 finishers advance to Murrietta. After the tie-breakers were determined, Price was officially listed in 14th place.

Girls Volleyball

El Diamante 3, Hanford West 0: The Miners inched closer to at least a share of the West Yosemite League championship with a 25-19, 25-8, 25-14 sweep of the Huskies.

Lauren Torres had 12 kills and four blocks for El Diamante (23-3, 10-1). The Miners are tied for first place in the WYL standings with Lemoore. El Diamante will clinch a share of the league crown if it defeats Golden West on Wednesday. That match is at Golden West.

Rachael Schaefer had six kills and five assists for the Miners. Katelyn Anderson added nine kills.

Mt. Whitney 3, Hanford 2: The Pioneers rallied for a 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 25-15, 19-17 win over the Bullpups in a WYL match.

Krysta Bernasconi had eight kills, 22 assists and 20 digs for Mt. Whitney (17-13, 5-6). Katie Roncelli had nine kills, seven blocks, eight digs and six assists. Jenny Stover added four kills.

Lemoore 3, Golden West 2: The Trailblazers almost knocked off the Tigers from their first-place tie atop the WYL standings, but Lemoore prevailed with a 27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13 league win.

Darian Jimenez had 15 kills, 39 digs and three aces for Golden West. Faith Sierra had six kills, 24 assists and 15 digs. Taylor Stainbrook added 11 kills and four aces.

Woodlake 3, Sierra Pacific 1: The Tigers captured the outright East Sequoia League championship with a 25-9, 25-22, 11-25, 26-24 win over the Golden Bears.

Melissa Samaniego had 15 kills, three aces and five blocks to lead Woodlake (21-4, 9-0). Regina Ramirez had seven kills and two assists. KiAnna Cunningham added five kills.

Boys Water Polo

Lemoore 14, Golden West 8: The Tigers topped the Trailblazers in a WYL match. Eddie Canvasser, Thomas Dunehew and Colton Trout each had two goals for Golden West (12-13, 5-6)

Girls Water Polo

El Diamante 9, Hanford West 8: Marissa Leal stopped 14 shots, including a 5-meter penalty shot to lead the Miners over the Huskies in a WYL match.

Faith Silveria had a match-high seven goals for El Diamante (18-6, 9-2).

Golden West 10, Lemoore 3: Elaine Draper scored four goals to lead the Trailblazers over the Tigers in a WYL match. Claire Akin had 12 saves for Golden West (5-6 in WYL).
