High School Roundup: CVC has command of CSL girls volleyball race

The Central Valley Christian Cavaliers wrapped up play in the first rotation of the Central Sequoia League girls volleyball schedule with a 25-18, 25-9, 23-25, 25-22 win over the Immanuel Eagles Tuesday night.

CVC (16-7) leads the CSL with a 5-0 record.

Taylor Van Den Berg led CVC with 16 kills. Veronica Nederend and Lindsey Calvin each added 10 kills. Tess Van Grouw had nine kills and four aces. Sky Griffin recorded 31 assists.

Redwood 3, Hanford West 0: The Rangers swept the Huskies 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 in a West Yosemite League match on Monday.

Rebekah Cervantes had 13 kills, 16 digs and five aces for Redwood (22-4, 6-2). Ashley Cervantes added 11 kills and 12 digs. Chandler McKean posted eight blocks and six kills. Ciara Wong recorded 37 assists.

Exeter 3, Dinuba 1: The Monarchs improved to 4-1 in CSL play with a 25-9, 22-25, 25-10, 25-13 win over the Emperors in Dinuba.

Melissa Vernon paced the Monarch offensive attack with 12 kills. Cidney Atkins added nine kills. Jacque Hutcheson had 12 aces and 31 assists for Exeter (20-4). Amber Atkinson added 19 digs.

Tulare Western 3, Tulare Union 2: The Mustangs forged a three-way tie atop the EYL standings by defeating the Redskins 15-25, 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10 at Sim Iness Gymnasium.

All three Tulare schools have identical 4-1 EYL records.

Ally Sassman led Tulare Western (9-8) with 17 kills, 17 digs and four aces. Khloe Ferreira had 14 kills, 13 digs and an ace. Julia Schott had nine kills.

Elizabeth Wilbur recorded 39 assists and 17 digs for Tulare Western.

Mission Oak 3, Delano 1: The Hawks topped the Tigers 23-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-12 in an EYL match at Mission Oak.

Alexis Kendrix put down a team-high 14 kills to go with nine digs. Mashelle Muratalla added 10 kills for Mission Oak (8-5, 4-1). Reed Yribarren had three kills and three aces to go with a team-high 35 assists. Cara Pilgrim had six kills and nine aces.

Girls Tennis

Mt. Whitney 5, Hanford West 4: Brooke Mendonca and Emily Rosa had key roles in the Pioneers' WYL win over the Huskies.

Mendonca won the No. 1 singles match 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 and paired with Eryn Fleming for an 8-5 doubles win for Mt. Whitney (13-8, 8-3). Emily Rosa won the No. 2 singles match by a 6-1, 6-3 score. She teamed with Lai Saechao for an 8-2 doubles win.

Woodlake 8, Lindsay 1: Selene Harrison won the No. 1 singles match 8-4 to lead the Tigers over the Cardinals in an East Sequoia League match.

Lindsay picked up its point with a doubles win from KD Rojas and Rosa Ibarra (8-5 score).

Tulare Union 8, Mission Oak 1: The Redskins inched closer to a share of the EYL championship with a win over the Hawks on Tuesday.

The Redskins (8-1 in EYL) swept all six singles matches -- Asia Boatman, Radhika Shah, Erica Rodriguez, Kasi Bergman, Sarah Horsting and Kayla Lorenzo each won their respective matches.

Mission Oak (1-8 in EYL) received its point in a doubles win from the pair of Jacqueline Medina and Madison Reveles.
