Hawks, Pioneers seeded 2-3 in Valley D-III playoffs

Tulare County basketball teams now know what the road to Selland Arena looks like after the Central Section basketball playoff brackets were released Saturday afternoon.

Mission Oak and Mt. Whitney drew the No. 2 and 3 seeds respectively in the Division III boys bracket, setting up a potential semifinal between the East and West Yosemite League champions. The Hawks open the playoffs at home against No. 15 Sanger and the Pioneers open at home against No. 14 McLane. All first round boys games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, with the first round girls games scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

No. 16 Central Valley Christian and No. 6 Dinuba are also featured in the D-III boys bracket. The Cavaliers open at No. 1 Independence while the Emperors open at home No. 11 Shafter. Dinuba's girls drew the No. 13 seed and open at No. 4 Chavez in the first round.

Redwood drew the highest seed of any girls team from Visalia or Tulare at No. 3 in Division II. The Rangers open at home against No. 6 Yosemite. Both teams received a first round bye to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. Boys quarterfinals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.

Also in the D-II girls bracket and also receiving a first round bye is No. 7 Tulare Western, which will play at No. 2 Garces in the quarterfinals.

Redwood's boys drew the No. 7 seed in Division II and will open at No. 2 Garces in the quarterfinals.

Tulare Union's boys drew the No. 10 seed in Division I and will open at No. 7 Bakersfield in the first round. Tulare Union's girls drew the No. 9 seed in Division III and will open at No. 8 Hoover in the first round.

Lindsay's girls were the highest seeded team from Tulare County at No. 1 in Division IV. The Cardinals open at home against No. 16 Coalinga in the first round. Lindsay's boys drew the No. 6 seed in Division IV and open at home against No. 11 Bakerfield Christian in the first round.

Exeter and Orosi each field two D-IV teams as well. Exeter's No. 2 boys open at home against No. 15 Kerman in the first round while the No. 4 girls open at home against No. 13 Fowler in the first round. Orosi's No. 13 boys open at No. 4 Granite Hills in the only all-Tulare County first-round matchup while the No. 8 girls open at home against No. 9 Caruthers in the first round.

Rounding out the group of D-IV teams from Tulare County are the No. 12 Farmersville boys, which open at No. 5 Chowchilla in the first round, and the No. 14 Strathmore girls, which open at No. 3 Taft in the first round.

Monache is the final Tulare County school competing in the Central Section basketball playoffs. The boys drew the No. 9 seed in Division II and open at No. 8 Hanford in the first round. The girls drew the No. 8 seed and open at home against No. 9 Bakersfield in the first round.
