All-County Tennis First Team

12:00 AM, Dec. 14, 2012 EST

Lora Gubler

School: Redwood

Grade: Junior

Highlights: The West Yosemite League champion earned a No. 1 ranking at the Central Area singles tournament, where she won all three of her matches to advance to the Central Section singles tournament as the No. 5 ranked player.

Comments: "Lora has a great work ethic. She spent the off season really preparing. She makes an effort to practice more often then most girls. She's very competitive, very driven and likes to succeed. Lora is one of the last four-year varsity players. She brings experience to the team and expects everyone to be as motivated as she is." -- Redwood coach Rosemarie Lewis

Monique Sanchez

School: Redwood

Grade: Senior

Highlights: The West Yosemite League runner-up earned the No. 3 ranking at the Central Area singles tournament, where she won all three of her matches to advance to the Central Section singles tournament. She then advanced to the Valley semifinals as the No. 11 seed.

Comments: "She is just a gem. Monique came to Redwood having never played tennis. She listened and learned and made the most of her athletic ability to become one of top players in Valley. She is such a great leader and role model. I tell my younger girls, 'When you look up to someone, that's who I want you to look to. Someone who works harder than everyone else.' " -- Redwood coach Rosemarie Lewis

Electa Wright

School: Monache

Grade: Sophomore

Highlights: The East Yosemite League champion did not lose a singles match all season until the round of 16 at the Central Section tournament. She finished 30-1 overall and 10-0 in EYL play on top of her 8-1 record in EYL doubles action.

Comments: "Work ethic. Just relentless work ethic. Sometimes she doesn't know when to quit. That's a good problem to have. You always hope the rest of the team can feed off of that, but one girl can't carry the team -- you still have to build off it, but it's a nice building block to have." -- Monache coach Gary Perez

Abbi Gregory

School: El Diamante

Grade: Senior

Highlights: Advanced to the round of 16 in the Central Section singles tournament with a 5-2 postseason record. She went 10-1 in West Yosemite League play and 15-2 in dual match singles contests to earn her team's most valuable player award for the second consecutive season.

Comments: "I've seen her develop so much as a tennis player over the years, and also as leader of the team. She is able to win tough matches. She was our No. 1 for three years. I've seen her -- this year especially -- be able to improve her mental toughness. That was the hallmark of her year." -- El Diamante coach Joe Harding

Briawna Brown

School: Redwood

Grade: Senior

Highlights: The top ranked singles player for the West Yosemite League champion Rangers won a WYL doubles championship with teammate Lacy Mangano. The two won all three of their matches at the Central Area doubles tournament before advancing to the Central Section doubles tournament quarterfinals.

Comments: "Briawna is one of the last four-year varsity players. She came on when we were on top in the Valley and has been on the top with previous teams. She learned from older girls when she was a freshman. It's very tough to be the No. 1 seed at any school. She is able to handle to the pressure of everyone looking to her to win the big matches." -- Redwood coach Rosemarie Lewis

Asia Boatman

School: Tulare Union

Grade: Senior

Highlights: The East Yosemite League singles runner-up went 20-11 overall and 7-3 in league play. She earned her team's coach's award after winning her first two matches at the Central Section Central Area singles tournament to finish as a wild card applicant for the Central Section tournament.

Comments: "Asia is an excellent all-around individual. The same attitude she has in class as a top student she takes out with her on the court. She's always developing and never complacent, which makes her the ideal player." -- Tulare Union coach Ron Berry
