Prep basketball roundup: Warrior girls win opener

Sydney Koel scored 14 points as Washington defeated Sioux City East 63-30 in girls basketball Tuesday in Sioux City. Tuesday was the opening night of girls basketball in South Dakota. The Warriors jumped to a 24-9 lead after one quarter. Washington visits Sturgis on Friday. For East (2-2), Tara Schwaderer had 10 points.

HARRISBURG 65, WEST CENTRAL 51 in Hartford - Hailey Halling had 20 points to lead the Tigers. For WC, Madison Kuehl had 19 points and seven steals and Makenna Macdonald had had eight rebounds. The Trojans visit Lennox on Monday.

MCCOOK CENTRAL-MONTROSE 54, MARION 20in Salem - Rachael Bartscher and Jean Skoglund each scored 13 points and Stefanie Matthies added 11 for MCM. Skoglund had 10 rebounds. MCM is host to Parker on Saturday in Montrose. For Marion, Kylie Hughes had 10 points.

BRIDGEWATER-EMERY 52, IRENE-WAKONDA 35 in Bridgewater - The Huskies used a 26-0 second-quarter burst to take command. Justine Dye scored 18 points and Tiana Kayser had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven steals for BE, which trailed 9-6 after one quarter. BE visits Hanson on Thursday. BERESFORD 59, PARKER 43 in Beresford - Taryn Twite scored 27 points, Alyson Johnsen had 14 points, 11 assists and seven steals and Hayley Hansen had 10 points for the Watchdogs, who visit Bon Homme on Friday. Parker led 23-21 at halftime, but was outscored 38-20 in the second half. For Parker, Micalanne Hanten had 13 points and Amber Dysthe added 11. Morgan Hay and Tessa Weeldreyer each had nine rebounds.
