High school basketball roundup: Fifth-ranked Rough Riders fall in St. Cloud

Vanderbilt recruit Becca Dahlman, the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota prep history, had 35 points as Braham High School topped Roosevelt 79-76 at the St. Cloud Tech Holiday Classic in St. Cloud, Minn.

Dahlman hit four 3-pointers for Braham, which led 41-37 at halftime and also got 17 points from Kayla Nickles.

For fifth-ranked Roosevelt (5-2), Lauren Kunz scored 18 points, Paige Mriden added 15 and Nicole Hatcher had 14 points and five assists.

Haleigh Gunn added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Rough Riders, who committed 21 turnovers in the loss. Roosevelt will visit Rapid City Central on Thursday.

VERMILLION 37, TEA 31 in Tea - Josie Huber had 15 points and nine rebounds and Mackenzie Huber 14 points for the Tanagers, who led 23-20 after three quarters. For Tea, Crystal Zitterich had eight points. and Taylor Gjertson eight rebounds. Vermillion (3-2) plays Sioux Falls Christian on Jan. 3. Tea (0-7) hosts Sioux Falls Christian on Jan. 7.

AVON 40, ALCESTER-HUDSON 36, OT in Alcester - Ariana Oorlog scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Pirates (3-2), who visit Scotland on Thursday, Chesney Nagel scored 11 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, Heidi Cap added eight points and 13 rebounds, Avon led 29-22 at halftime. For A-H (2-2), Shenia Doering scored 26 points for the Cubs, who visit Marion today.

CHESTER AREA 39, DELL RAPIDS ST. MARY 36 in Dell Rapids - Erin Benson scored 24 points to lead the Flyers (4-2), who play Castlewood in the Entringer Classic today in Brookings. Chester led 15-14 at halftime. For DRSM (2-5), Kelly Michel had 10 points and three steals, Mikayla Brown grabbed seven rebounds for the Cardinals, who visit Marion on Friday.

FLANDREAU 49, HOWARD 39 in Howard - Makayla Dietrich scored 13 points for the Fliers (3-2), who hosts Garretson on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Marisa Hare added 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Flandreau led 24-20 at halftime. For Howard (1-5), Taylor Noid had 14 points, Kelsey Dawson added 11 points and McKenna Rudebusch pulled down nine rebounds. The Tigers visit DeSmet on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

CASTLEWOOD 37, MILBANK 31 in Milbank - Sierra Johnson had 11 points as Castlewood outscored Milbank 12-2 in the fourth quarter. Kendra Snaza led Milbank with seven points.

OLDHAM-RAMONA/RUTLAND 49, FLORENCE-HENRY 45 in Brookings - BreeAna Olson led the Raiders with 19 points, nine rebounds anf five steals. Taylor Stratton had 17 points and Haley Hopf 10 rebounds for ORR, which outscored FH 20-6 in the fourth quarter. For FH, Morgan Schaack had 19 points and Whitney Schaack 10 points and nine rebounds.

HAMLIN 69, WOLSEY-WESSINGTON 9 - Kennedy Noem scored 12 points while Miranda Arbach had 10 points and 10 steals. Hamlin outscored WW 18-3 in the first quarter and 19-1 in the second. Sidney Carey led WW with three points.

LAKE PRESTON 38, WAVERLY-SOUTH SHORE 35 - Brenna Paul's 20 points sparked the Divers, who led 20-18 at halftime. Marly Vendrig added eight rebounds. LP was 11 of 27 from the free throw line while WSS was 12 of 31. For WSS, Mikaela Fischer had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Coutney Arthur 11 rebounds.

GAYVILLE-VOLIN 50, ARLINGTON 48 - Rachel Haas scored 14 points while Genny Clark and Kelia Barta each added 10. GV outscored Arlington 14-10 in the fourth quarter. For Arlington, Brooklyn Judstra had 18 points and eight rebounds and Josie Parry 13 points.

ESTELLINE 38, SIOUX VALLEY 37 - Katie Hendrickson scored 10 points to lead Estelline while Erin Begalka had seven rebounds. For Sioux Valley, Kaylee Granum had 16 points and Anna Keefe 12 points. Estelline, which trailed 18-17 at halftime outscored Sioux Valley 16-7 in the third quarter. Sioux Valley then outscored Estelline 12-5 in the fourth.

PARKSTON CLASSIC

HANSON 73, CENTERVILLE 58 in Parkston - Kynedi Cheeseman scored 22 points, Cassidy Graham 11, Kelli Wenande 10 and Kendra Cheeseman 10 to lead the fifth-ranked Class B Beavers. Hanson led 43-34 at halftime. For No. 4 Centerville, Kieran O'Malley had 31 points and Carleigh Oster 10. Hanson (7-0) is at Avon on Jan. 5. Centerville (5-1) is at Marion on Jan. 3.

TRI-VALLEY 72, WAGNER 39 - Allie Cross had 20 poits, Sammy Kasowski 14 points and eight rebounds and Stacey McDonald 13 points. Tri-Valley led 36-14 at halftime. For Wagner, Ali Kuca had 20 points. Tri-Valley (5-0) hosts Beresford on Jan. 7. Wagner (4-3) plays Bon Homme on Jan. 3.

PARKSTON 47, DELL RAPIDS 25 - Erica Herrold scored 15 points and pulled down 24 rebounds for the Trojans (6-1), who visit Vermillion on Friday, Alexis Horstman added 10 points and Krista Radke grabbed 11 rebounds. Parkston led 26-12 at halftime. For DR (2-4), Nicole Rice had five points and Rachel Devlin had four rebounds.

BERESFORD 47, MADISON 26 - Taryn Twite scored 19 points and had five steals to lead the Watchdogs (5-1), who visit Tri-Valley on Monday, Jan. 7. Alyson Johnsen added 15 points. Beresford led 32-14 at halftime. For Madison, Danielle Roemen had nine points and Madison Nipe grabbed 10 rebounds.

ETHAN 79, VIBORG/HURLEY 59 - Rachel Hawkins had 22 points and six assists, Darbi Gustafson 20 points and 10 rebounds and Whitney Enders 11 points for Ethan, which led 35-23 at halftime. For VH, Abby Hora had 19 points and Danielle Voss 10. VH (5-2) hosts Elk Point-Jefferson on Jan. 5.

HIGHMORE-HARROLD 44, CORSICA/STICKNEY 42, OT - Courtney Keller scored 17 points for the Pirates (7-0), McKenzie Zilverberg added 10 points and eight assists, Sydney Casan grabbed seven rebounds. H-H led 25-23 at halftime. For C/S, Jessica Hoogers had 14 points and nine rebounds, Hope Menning had 14 points and Missy Johnson grabbed eight rebounds.

WARNER 56, SULLY BUTTES 43 - Miranda Ristau scored 17 points for the third-ranked Class B Monarchs (7-0), Ashley Rozell scored 16 points and Rachel Rogers grabbed 13 rebounds. Warner led 29-16 at halftime. For SB (4-1), Karlea Stahl had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Remi Wientjes added 12 points and five assists.

ST. THOMAS MORE 57, CLARK/WILLOW LAKE 34 - Alexis Swedlund scored 24 points for the top-ranked Class A Cavaliers (6-0), Maddie Kirsch added 15 points and Moria Duffy had 12 points and nine rebounds. STM led 27-17 at haltime. For CWL (1-3), MackKenzie Huber had nine points and Chynna Stevens had 12 rebounds, Stevens and Mikayla Prouty each had three steals.

BOYS

TEA 49, VERMILLION 41 in Tea - Connor Shaull had 12 points and seven rebounds and Mitchell Nissen 12 points to lead the Titans. Tea led 35-18 at halftime. For Vermillion, Nick Jensen had 11 points and JT Sortenson 10. Tea (5-1) hosts Tri-Valley in the Big Sioux Conference tourament on Jan. 3. Vermillion (3-1) is at West Central on Jan. 3.

ST. THOMAS MORE 46, MILBANK 42 in Milbank - Jacob Henderson scored 16 points while Jake Sullivan and Jeron Laurenti each added 10. STM outscored Milbank 27-11 in the fourth quarter. For Milbank, Andy Buchele had 12 points, Issac Lindquist 10 points and nine rebounds and Ben Forrette 10 points.

LYMAN CLASSIC

LYMAN 45, SUNSHINE BIBLE ACADEMY 42 in Lyman - Jaylen Uthe scored 20 points and had four steals for the Raiders (3-1), Charlie LaRoche had five assists. Lyman led 20-19 at halftime. For SBA (1-4), Brady Brockel and Brian LaDue each had 12 points and Drew McClain 11 and Daniel Pedersen three blocks.
