Folsom showers Bulldogs with support as season approaches

1:53 AM, Aug. 18, 2012 EDT

FOLSOM, CA - The city of Folsom kicked off the start of the new high school football season by hosting the Bulldogs to a fundraising dinner at the local community center.

Hundreds of community leaders, parents and players joined the Bulldogs coaching staff to a dinner and silent auction benefitting the football program.

Last season, the Bulldogs, led by California's top-ranked quarterback Tanner Trosin, went 11-3 and fell to the Bulldogs of Vacaville in the Sac-Joaquin D-II Section Championship. Trosin threw 49 touchdowns and had over 5,000 passing yards in the season.

Just two years removed from winning the CIF Division II State Championship, Folsom head coach Kris Richardson believes his young Bulldogs will take the critics and opposition by surprise.

"We led the state in offense last year in passing," Richardson told News10. " A lot of seniors go out and it's (time for) that next wave of guys.

"We think we're going to be pretty good - we're going to surprise some people. But, we've got to get those games going so we can see and adjust and get ready for the postseason, hopefully."

The Bulldogs will open their 2012 season against the Timberwolves at Woodcreek High School in Roseville on Friday, August 24.
