Roundup: Big second quarter propels Carson boys past Damonte

The Carson boys basketball team scored 29 points in the second quarter to down Damonte Ranch, 66-56, on Thursday night in Carson City.

The Senators scored 20 points in the second half, but the outburst of layups in the second period propelled them.

Rafferty King scored 27 points for Carson. He also knocked down three 3-pointers. Matthew Nolan added 16 points.

Damonte's David Crowley scored 24 points, and Justin Bridgman added nine.

Nick Solano hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Mustangs.

Boys Basketball

SPANISH SPRINGS 64, HUG 46 at Spanish Springs: TJ McCauley knocked down four 3-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 29 points for the Cougars.

Austin Damoth added 17 points.

Rian Narra led the Hawks with 14 points.

PERSHING COUNTY 55, FERNLEY 41 at Fernley: Randolph McLean and Jacob Adams each scored 16 points for the Mustangs.

Kevin Montgomery led Fernley with 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

RENO 75, NORTH VALLEYS 35 at Reno: Kyle Mahaffey and Hart McGratch each scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Huskies.

Mauricio Varela scored 15 points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers for the Panthers.

HUG 65, SPARKS 43 at Sparks: The Hawks' Raymond Kerr scored 12 points in a Rail City Classic win.

Girls Basketball

RENO 67, NORTH VALLEYS 22 at Reno: Guiliana Hascheff had 17 points to lead the Huskies.

Daranda Hinkey added 12 points. Hascheff and Hinkey each knocked down three 3-pointers.

Haley Bowen led North Valleys with nine points.

PERSHING COUNTY 46, FERNLEY 20 at Fernley: Melissa Gonzalez scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Mustangs.

Sarita Jo Condie added 14 points, including three 3-pointers.

For Fernley, Lynsee Ferretto scored six points.

SPANISH SPRINGS 68, HUG 25 at Spanish Springs: Riley Holladay hit a pair of 3-pointers on her way to scoring 19 points to lead the Cougars.

Also in double-digit scoring were Lyndsey Anderson (13) and Lanesha Terrance (11). For the Hawks, Jamilla Anderson scored eight points.
