Senior Tyler Meidell of Damonte Ranch was honored as one of 12 national finalists for the 2012 Wendy's High School Heisman Award. He was surprised with the announcement on campus Thursday morning.
The award honors exceptional students who combine excellence in academics, athletics and community service. Roughly 45,000 students applied for this year's award.
The 12 national finalists will travel to New York, where two national winners -- one male and one female -- will be chosen. Each will receive a crystal Wendy's High School Heisman trophy, $10,000 donation to their respective high schools and recognition during the Heisman ceremony in New York on Dec. 8.
