Pershing County came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Division III South top seed Calvary Chapel, 20-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-21 and 15-12, to advance to today's state championship game against two-time defending state champion Yerington in a rematch of last week's regional championship.
Yerington advanced with a 3-0 win over The Meadows.
"We came out ready," Pershing County coach Shauna Bake said. "I thought matched up pretty well."
Pershing County trailed 12-7 in the fourth game before taking its first lead at 16-15.
"I was really pretty confident going into game five," Bake said. "We have experienced athletes who have been in state tournaments in basketball and they wouldn't crack under pressure. I thought that experience would help us, and it did."
Melissa Gonzalez and Rocio Torres had 11 kills each for the Mustangs.
Yerington defeated The Meadows, 25-10, 25-23 and 25-20.
Kassidy Lommori led the Lions with 11 kills.
"We need to cut down some of our errors and pick up our intensity for tomorrow, be ready to play," Yerington coach Debbie Rife said.
