Pershing County scored on its opening 80-yard drive and used that early momentum to dominate visiting Lincoln County, 38-14, in a Division III state football semifinal game Saturday in Lovelock.
Next up for the Mustangs (10-1) is the Division III state championship game, next Friday at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. Pershing County will face Mountain View, a 7-6 winner over Battle Mountain on Saturday.
The Mustangs led, 22-0, in the second quarter before the Lynx reached the scoreboard. Pershing County steadily extended their advantage to as much as 38-6 in the fourth.
"That was a good start; the kind of start you're looking for," Pershing County coach Dave McLean said.
Jared Jensen rushed for 146 yards to lead a powerful rushing attack for the Mustangs, who also got 126 yards from Jacob Flores.
"We were balanced with Jacob and Jared," McLean said. "They complement each other really well."
