Basketball roundup: Hug boys survive Damonte's upset bid

Rian Narra hit the game-winner with 3 seconds left as the Hug boys rallied to defeat Damonte Ranch, 62-60, in the first round of the Division I North regional Tuesday night at Hug.

Sam Williams led the Hawks with 28 points and eight rebounds. Raymond Kerr grabbed six rebounds for Hug (21-6), which will face Galena at 7 p.m. Thursday at Carson.

Damonte led 49-46 after three quarters.Justin Bridgman led the Mustangs with 19 points, David Crowley added 17 and Kyle Daugherty had 12.

Boys Basketball

McQUEEN 60, DOUGLAS 59 at Minden: Kody Eckert hit a game-winning jumper with 4.5 seconds left to lift the Lancers past the top-seeded Tigers and into the semifinals.

Eckert tallied 19 points, while three other players (Bryce Harnack 12, DaeShawn Patterson 11 and Kendall Dewees 11) also reached double figures for McQueen, which will face Carson in Thursday's semifinals.

James Herrick hit a pair of free throws with 25 seconds remaining to put Douglas ahead, 59-58 before Eckert's heroics.

Hunter Myers heaved a 30-foot shot as time expired, but it fell short for Douglas. Myers had 16 points. Austin Evans also had 16.

LOWRY 70, TRUCKEE 32 at Winnemucca: Junior Josh Watterson scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, had four steals and two blocks for the Buckaroos in a Division I-A North first-round game.

Garrett Naveran had 10 points and Jesse Studebaker grabbed six rebounds and had three steals for Lowry.

Graham Millie led the Wolverines with 15 points. Lowry will face Sparks at 4:40 p.m on Friday at Wooster. The Buckaroos beat the Railroaders by 23 points in December at Sparks.

ELKO 62, SPRING CREEK 22 at Elko: AJ Jordan and Nathan Klekas each scored 12 points to pace the Indians.

Spring Creek's Jaysen Woodland scored a team-high seven points.

Girls Basketball

ELKO 59, DAYTON 33 at Elko: Raelynn Forcella scored 13 points and Desirae Danner added 11 as the Indians advanced in the Division I-A North regional and will face the winner of today's Truckee-South Tahoe game on Friday.

Danner injured her ankle but is expected to play Friday.

Taylor Ingersoll led Dayton with 10 points.
