The first decent winter storm of 2013 was expected to hit the Reno-Tahoe area on Tuesday, which caused the start of the Northern Nevada Ski Racing League's state championships at Mt. Rose to be pushed back to today.
Action starts at 10 a.m. both today and Thursday on Mt. Rose's East Bowl. Boys and girls racers will compete in slalom today and in giant slalom Thursday.
"I'm thinking its going to be cold and hard and fast," said Dave Zotter, Wooster coach and league coordinator. "But our kids have been training on hard snow for the last month so they're used to it."
Alpine skiers from area high schools -- Bishop Manogue, Damonte Ranch, Galena, McQueen, North Valleys, Reed, Reno, Sage Ridge, Spanish Springs and Wooster -- will compete.
The state championship meet for the Tahoe Basin Ski League is set for Feb. 25 and 26 at Sierra at Tahoe.
