Three-sport athlete Jared Jensen never gets a chance to rest, but his boundless energy has served him well.

Fresh off being named the Division III North football player of the year, the Pershing County senior claimed his fourth state wrestling title and was named the Div. III 170-pound wrestler of the year. He also won three state titles while playing fullback/linebacker for the Mustangs.

Jensen won his fourth wrestling title in dramatic fashion, defeating Yerington senior Skylar Bryan 9-8 in the finals. For his efforts, he is also the 2012-13 RGJ All-North Division III Wrestler of the Year.

"It's pretty exciting, being the first ever from my school, and winning in scary fashion," Jensen said of being named Wrestler of the Year and his fourth state title. "I was prepared for it because I knew this was my last year, and I wanted to go out with a bang."

As a junior, he encountered some medical trouble during an emergency intestinal operation and could not wrestle until midway through the season.

"He's a real high-character kid," coach Tom Brooks said. "He's come through a lot to win those four state titles. He's really a driven young man. He likes to be a success at whatever he does."

Jensen, who went 48-2 on the wrestling mat this season, said he was in good physical shape from playing football. He also hit the weight room hard and ran on the treadmill during the winter.

Jensen is now patrolling center field and pitching for the Pershing County baseball team. In the fall, he'll be playing football at Eastern Oregon, sad his wrestling days are over but proud of his accomplishments. He plans to major in business.
