The Arlington, Pawling and Rhinebeck high school boys cross country teams will be competing for state public high school championships at Saturday's meet being held at Elma Meadows in Erie County.

Arlington, which was ranked first in the state earlier this season and is now ranked eighth, cruised to the Section 1 Class A title on Tuesday at Bowdoin Park and is led by Sibby Hanson, who placed second at the sectional meet.

The Pawling boys, led by Matt Jorgensen's second-place finish, won a fourth consecutive Section 1 title and are currently the top-ranked public high school in the state's Class C poll.

Rhinebeck, ranked ninth in the state's Class C poll, battled through illnesses to win the Section 9 title at Bear Mountain State Park on Tuesday.

Here is some other news heading into the state meet:

* Haldane qualified both a boys and girls teams for the state's Class D meet.

* Arlington teammates Bella Burda and Delphi Cleaveland are going to the meet. Burda is the Section 1 champion.

* Pawling is sending three girls to the state meet -- Samantha McCarthy, Sarah Marvin and Morgan Meaney.

* New Paltz's Alfredo Mazzuca (Class B) and Dover's Peter Sander (Class C) are Section 9 champs scheduled to compete at the state meet.

Should Section 9 welcome Rockland County schools for the 2014-15 school year?
