Jeff Greblick had a goal and an assist as the top-seeded Arlington High School boys soccer team defeated eighth-seeded Horace Greeley, 4-1, in a Section 1 Class AA quarterfinal in Freedom Plains on Tuesday.

Arlington (17-1) advances to today's 2 p.m. semifinal against fifth-seeded Scarsdale.

Stephen Jennings, Connor Melanophy and Austin Schweitzer also scored for Arlington. Jennings' score was 3:30 into the game.

"The way we started the match, we came fired up to play," Arlington coach Craig Sanborn said. "For everybody, it's been a while since we played."

Awaiting today's Arlington-Scarsdale winner is second-seeded North Rockland, which defeated Mahopac in a semifinal Tuesday to advance to Thursday's final, which will be played at 6:30 p.m. at Brewster.

"For us, it's a matter of continuing to do what we're good at," Sanborn said. "That's high-pressure defending. We defend with 11 players."

Haldane advances to sectional final -- Besting No. 3 Alexander Hamilton on penalty kicks, 5-3, the No. 2 Blue Devils advanced to take on No. 1 Solomon Schechter in the Section 1 Class C final, Thursday at John Jay-Cross River.

After the two teams ended the first half tied, 2-2, with Haldane's goals coming from Aidan Draper and Maceara Heanue, the teams went scoreless through the second half and subsequent pair of overtime periods, leading up to the kicks round.

The teams each converted in the first three rounds of kicks. Jay Marchese scored Haldane's goal in the fourth round. After Hamilton failed to keep pace with its own attempt, Johnny Rotando converted Haldane's final kick to advance his team.

In goal, Haldane's Garret Quigley made nine saves, including "a huge save in the second overtime," which Haldane coach Ahmed Dwidar credited for allowing his team to reach penalty kicks.

"Everyone doubted us to win this game," said Dwidar. "We came up big against a very good team."

Claire Childs scored 4 minutes into the second overtime as third-seeded Arlington defeated second-seeded and host Scarsdale, 3-2, in a Section 1 Class AA semifinal.

Arlington, the defending Section 1 Class AA champion and state finalist from 2011, will face the winner of today's North Rockland-Clarkstown South semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at Carmel High School.

Allie Pushkarsh and Biz LaTuso scored in the first half for Arlington (13-4), but Scarsdale scored two goals in a 4-minute span in the second half to tie the game.

In the second overtime, Pushkarsh passed the ball to Childs, who lifted the ball with a right boot into the corner for the win.

"The seniors on the team last year were building a great program, and worked with the younger players to give them the opportunities they had," Arlington coach Kieran McIlvenny said.
