Girls Basketball: Gulf Breeze holds off Arnold

Savannah Nixon scored a team-high 14 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to help Gulf Breeze hold off District 1-5A opponent Panama City Arnold, 40-36, on Tuesday.

Shelby Pliska also scored in double figures for the Dolphins with 12 points.

Gulf Breeze continues district play Friday at home against Panama City Rutherford.

PHS tops Navarre

Chelsey Gibson scored 18 points, Shamina Hunter added 13, and Pensacola High overwhelmed Navarre, 61-14, at home.

Gibson also pulled down seven rebounds, made three assists and produced five steals.

The Tigers play again Friday at Escambia.

Pine Forest rolls past Milton

Pine Forest improved to 9-0 in District 1-6A with a 69-10 win against Milton.

Now 13-2 overall, the Eagles had four players in double figures led by 11 points each from Ty Purifoy and Jayla King. Njeri Nelms and Brittney Snowden added 10 points apiece.

Rachel Moorer scored 22 points to lead Pace past Washington, 62-42.

Jade Lewis poured in a game-high 25 points in the losing effort for the Wildcats.

Gabrielle Clune and Phaedra Harris scored seven points apiece as Catholic recorded a 31-24 road win against Jay.

Jay's Hilary Hendricks led all scorers with 13 points, but the Royals were hurt by a 7-1 first-quarter deficit and trailed by nine at the half.

Escambia surged in the second half at Tate for a 44-34 win.

Jayla McGruder netted 20 points to lead all scorers, and Kim Bethea added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Escambia.

Ali Obrein scored 19 points for Tate in the loss.
