Escambia tops Pine Forest, advances in 4A

The Escambia High girls soccer team blanked Pine Forest 3-0 on Monday in the first round of the District 1-4A Tournament, hosted by Navarre.

The Gators' Mia Moering accounted for all three of the goals, scoring two and assisting Kim Farase on another.

Escambia goalkeeper Pheiden Courtney made five saves for the shutout victory.

The Gators, seeded seventh in the district, now will advance to take on No. 2 Pace at 7:30 p.m. today.

No. 4 Fort Walton Beach and No. 5 Tate will play a first-round game at 5:30 p.m. today, and No. 3 Navarre will face No. 6 Crestview, also at 7:30 p.m.

Niceville, the top seed, has earned a first-round bye and will play in the semifinals against the Escambia-Pace winner at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Today's games will take place at the NYSA soccer fields at 8840 High School Blvd. in Navarre.

Wednesday's semifinals and Friday's championship will be played at Navarre High's Bennett C. Russell Stadium.

Boys Soccer Raiders roll Vikings

Ryan Olson scored two goals, and Navarre cruised past visiting Fort Walton Beach 4-1.

Cody White also scored for the Raiders -- who earned the No. 2 seed for next week's District 1-4A Tournament with the victory. Kameron Bethel produced a goal and an assist for Navarre.

The Raiders play against Niceville on Thursday, the No. 1 seed in 1-4A. Next week, Navarre hosts the District 1-4A Tournament.

Next: Navarre hosts Niceville on Thursday.

Washington edges Tate, 2-1

Chris Searcy and Mitchell Lipham each scored goals, and Washington held off Tate 2-1.

Chris Searcy also doled out an assist for the Wildcats, who outshot the Aggies 16-10.

Brandon Jenkins scored for Tate, and Aggies goalkeeper Paul Shelton made eight saves.

Washington (10-3-2) -- Goals: Chris Searcy 1, Mitchell Lipham 1. Assists: Searcy 1, Ben Stevens 1. Saves: Holden Hudson 4.

Girls Basketball Catholic wins by 1

Phaedra Harris scored 17 points, and Catholic used a 20-point fourth quarter to get past host Central 44-43.

KeAunni Evans was second for the Crusaders in scoring with 12 points.

Central's Makayla Simmons led all scorers with 29 points.

The Jaguars will look to rebound today when they host Paxton.
