Fresh off a trip to the Region 1-3A finals, the Catholic Crusaders football team racked up some postseason honors on Thursday as three players were named to the Associated Press Class 3A All-State first team.
Seniors Jace Banfell and Kyle Lay are joined by junior linebacker Delvin Purifoy on the squad selected by newspaper editors and reporters from around the state.
Junior quarterback Cody Henry was also selected as an honorable mention pick to the team.
Banfell was the anchor of a Catholic High offensive line that averaged nearly 280 yards per game against one of the toughest schedules in the state.
Lay was an unstoppable force on the Crusaders' defense, as he finished the year with 80 tackles and was among the area leaders with 10 sacks.
Purifoy, who issued a verbal commitment to Florida State Thursday morning, was also dominant at his position. He finished with a team-high 116 tackles to go with two sacks.
Henry completed 176-of-307 passes for 2,063 yards and 14 touchdowns to help the Crusaders advance to the region championship. He also added 153 yards on 96 carries.
