Blackhawks, Knights open season with tie

The girls' soccer season got under way Tuesday as Shadow Hills and La Quinta went down to the wire in a 2-2 tie at Shadow Hills High School.

Rachel Stanfill scored the tying goal for the Blackhawks on an assist from Arianna Rodriguez. Carlee Eagleson scored the first goal, and that was assisted by Breeanny Meza.

Vanessa Caudillo and Alejandra Leyva scored one goal apiece for the Knights.

La Quinta faces West Valley on Nov. 29 in the Beaumont Tournament.

GIRLS' SOCCER

PALM DESERT 2, DESERT HOT SPRINGS 0: Cali Keeran scored five minutes into the game, and Kaila Cain added a goal and an assist to lift the Aztecs in their opener.

Miah Montigny recorded an assist, and Katie Drake finished with four saves.

Erin Moller and Skyla Wilson also stood out defensively for Palm Desert, which plays San Bernardino at the Beaumont Tournament on Nov. 29.

BOYS' SOCCER

PALM DESERT 1, DESERT HOT SPRINGS 0: Diego Granados scored the winning goal 18 minutes into the second half as the Aztecs opened their season with a road victory over the Golden Eagles.

Chris Hernandez added five saves for Palm Desert.

Sergio Hernandez led Desert Hot Springs with 12 saves in goal.

The Aztecs face Paloma Valley on Nov. 29, while the Golden Eagles host San Jacinto at 5 p.m. on Monday.
