Tigers win, set mark

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. - Shelly Shafer was one stroke away from Hagerstown's individual record and Olivia Houck and Michaela Bledsoe each shot personal bests as Hagerstown set a team school record in defeating Winchester 156-231 Tuesday at Hartley Hills Golf Course. The previous mark was 161 set in 2008.

Shafer had two birdies and seven pars for a score of 34, one shot off Alesia Melton's school-record 33, while Houck carded 41 and Bledsoe 43. Jess Denhart shot 38 for the Tigers (7-0, 2-0), while Beth Redmond led the Falcons with a 54.

"I think playing Saturday where we played (Knollwood Golf Course) and coming back to our course, I think that had something to do with it," Hagerstown coach Lloyd Michael said. " ... They're all playing pretty well right now. We got a lot of depth; one through eight are pretty good. We just hope we can continue to improve."

The Tigers host Monroe Central on Thursday.

Trail tops TCN

LEWISBURG, Ohio - National Trail defeated Cross County Conference and Preble County foe Tri-County North 168-178 Tuesday at the Penn Terra Golf Course. Blazer Trevor Gates earned medalist honors with his 38, while Tyler Glander carded a 42.

National Trail (168) -- Trevor Gates 38, Tyler Glander 42, Kyle Bachman 44, Bryten Jones 44, Logan Petitt 47, Isaac Plankenhorn 47.

'Dogsdown champs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Ind. - Centerville defeated reigning Sectional 41 champion Eastern Hancock 25-11, 25-10, 25-21 Tuesday. Ally Cox had 25 assists and six aces for the Bulldogs (2-3), Sarah Stelle had 11 kills and Lexi Stamper and Kaylin Smith added six kills apiece.

Kaylin Smith had three of the team's six blocks, while Brittany Jones had 15 digs and Cristen Hale added seven.

"Last year, the girls were telling me, they got pretty destroyed. This year we won pretty decidedly," first-year Centerville coach Victoria Bevins said. " ... I'm just excited about where things are going and I love seeing them play as a team."

Centerville travels Saturday to the Cowan Invitational.

Golden Eagles win thriller

CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. - Jordan Bryant had 21 kills and seven blocks as Lincoln improved to 5-1 by defeating Shenandoah 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 18-25, 15-10 on Tuesday.

Haley Hall had a team-high 23 digs and three aces, Kristen Meal had 20 digs and nine kills and Sara Maley had seven aces.

The Golden Eagles play Wayne County foe Centerville in the first round of Saturday's Cowan Invitational.

JV score: Shenandoah won 25-9, 25-19; Richel Duffin had four service points, four digs, seven kills for Lincoln (1-1).

Rockets drop MEC match

MODOC, Ind. - Wes-Del held off Union 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 20-25, 15-7 Tuesday in Mid-Eastern Conference action.

Courtney Kinnaman had 31 kills and 12 digs for the reigning sectional champion Rockets (5-2, 1-1), while DeAnn Kauffman had 10 kills, 19 digs and a pair of aces.

Faithlan Ellis added two kills and two solo blocks for the Rockets and Aubrey Lindsey had 14 digs and two aces.

Union plays host to Seton Catholic on Wednesday.

Centerville wins opener

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. - Seth Castleman, Conner Dillon and Ricky Torres each scored unassisted goals as Centerville won its season opener 3-0 over Knightstown on Tuesday. Casey Crumbaugh had nine saves for the Bulldogs.

Centerville travels to the Batesville Invitational on Saturday.

Spartans fall

East Central halted Connersville 2-1 on Tuesday in Eastern Indiana Conference play.

Jake Hackelman scored for the Spartans (2-2, 2-1), who play host Saturday to Union County.

Bulldogs win 1-0

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. - Merissa Ross scored with an assist from Makayla McFarland Tuesday as Centerville defeated Knightstown 1-0. Ashley Shepherd had one save, while Sophie Neher had a non-goalie save off a corner kick.

Centerville (2-0-1) travels to Pendleton Heights on Thursday.

Eagles sweep Rebels

CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. - Kyle Richardson and Austin Merida each won singles matches as Lincoln defeated Randolph Southern 5-0 Tuesday. Brady Kissick and Evan Underwood won at No. 1 doubles, while Gus Rihm and Jacob Kissick won at No. 2.

The Golden Eagles (2-0) host Connersville on Thursday.

Patriots win

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. - Dillon Miller and Devin Pinney earned singles victories and Andrew Stansberry and Dakota Stansberry won at No. 1 doubles as Union County earned its first victory of the year 3-2 over Knightstown Tuesday.

"Overall, the entire team played very well and even on the courts they lost, the games were very close and very well played," Patriots head coach Karl Moffett said in an email.

The Patriots (1-1) host Franklin County Sept. 4.
