Giants catcher Buster Posey was a pretty good pitcher in high school, going 12-0 with a 1.06 ERA as a senior at Lee County (Ga.). The Homecoming King was also a solid student, ranking fourth in his class of 302 students with a 3.94 GPA.

Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello compiled a 10-0 record, 1.44 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched as a senior at Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.) in 2007. The righty committed to UNC, but entered the MLB Draft instead, and was selected by the Tigers with the 27th pick of the first round.

Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson, who was named the best 12-year-old player by Baseball America in 1999, was a two-sport star at Billy Ryan (Denton, Texas). He committed to Georgia Tech to play baseball and basketball, but he passed on college after the Yankees selected him in the eighth round of the 2005 MLB Draft.
