THE WINNER: Maggie Drazba
School: St. Marys (W.Va.)
Athletic achievement: She raced to her third Class AA-A individual state championship in four years this past season with a time of 17:17.89. The returning Gatorade West Virginia Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Drazba earned third place at the Foot Locker South Regional championships, crossing the line in 17:10 to qualify for the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. There, she finished 22nd in the country with a time of 18:06.
Academic excellence: Drazba has maintained a 4.05 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community and the treasurer of her school’s student body, she has volunteered locally on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club of America and the National Honor Society.
“Maggie Drazba is amazing, on and off the trail,” said Melissa Kaiser, head coach at Philip Barbour (Philippi, W.Va.). “I have had the privilege to watch her become the runner that she is over the last three years. She trains endlessly and continues to amaze spectators with her performances.”
THE FUTURE: Drazba has verbally committed to the University of West Virginia.
