THE WINNER: Lucy Biles

THE BASICS

School: Herriman (Utah)
Grade: Sophomore
Height: 5-foot-5

Athletic achievement: She raced to the Class 4A individual state championship this past season with a time of 17:49.6. Biles took fourth at the Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Regional championships in 17:23 and earned victories at the Park City Invitational, the Herriman Invitational and the Region 7 championships.

Academic excellence: Biles has maintained a 3.91 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and an area food bank.

THE PRAISE

“Lucy has only been running for just over one year,” said Herriman head coach James Barnes. “She’s a great kid, and very coachable. She has great leadership skills for a young girl.”

THE FUTURE: Biles will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
