Every week during the high school football season, we'll take a look at some of the more interesting videos that appear on YouTube. From highlights and lowlights, to interviews and outtakes, everything is fair game. Our first installment of Weekend Rewind features a hip-hop anthem, two videos that put the special in special teams and a Top 10 countdown.
Last Week's Rewind: "Naples High 'Til I Die"
Happy Birthday Thomas Tyner
We can think of worse ways to celebrate one's 18th birthday, like, say, rushing for seven touchdowns and 500 yards. What's the fun in that? You're supposed to go BIG on your birthday and Aloha (Ore.) senior running back Thomas Tyner, an Oregon commit, did just that. Tyner rushed for 10 touchdowns and a state single-game record 643 yards in an 84-63 win over Lakeridge (Ore.).
"You know, it feels good, especially on my 18th birthday," Tyner told reporters after the game. "But you know, it all starts with the line, and the way we finished, it was great, it was great."
There's a running back mature beyond his 18 years -- praising his offensive line for doing the dirty work. Asked how he was going to celebrate his birthday (as if he hadn't just done so), Tyner laughed.
"I'm going to sleep."
Davion Taylor's Crazy Kickoff Return
Former Kansas City Chiefs return specialist Dante Hall had one of the best nicknames in sports -- The Human Joystick. Maury (Norfolk, Va.) receiver Davion Taylor did his best Halll impression with a 99-yard kickoff return against Lakeland (Suffolk, Va.) last week.
People Dancing Behind People
A group of friends in Louisiana film themselves dancing behind unsuspecting people at a high school football game and before the LSU game. One of those people is allegedly actor Ryan Phillippe. It's exactly what it sounds like.
The Craziest Ending to a High School Football Game
Someone was busy uploading footage from the 1985 Texas 5A Final over the weekend, which reminded me of the greatest high school football video I've ever seen. If you're not one of the one million-plus people who have watched the incredible finish to the Plano East-John Tyler playoff game in 1994, make some time for it today. (And be sure to listen with the sound on, because the announcers are the best part.)
Another Young Tebow?
High school football players will inevitably be compared to Tim Tebow, rightly or wrongly, for years to come. On Friday, a recruiting analyst tweeted that Manatee quarterback Cord Sandberg reminded him a little of a young Tebow. Yesterday, the following highlight video surfaced on YouTube. Behold Elijah "Tebow" Clayton.
Fresh Catch by a Freshman
This "crazy diving mid-air interception" in a freshman game was ruled incomplete. The video evidence is inconclusive.
