Most high school soccer players will never experience the thrill of recording a hat trick. For St. John's Prep (Collegeville, Minn.) senior Clare Culligan, the feat is, well, old hat.
Through 16 games this season, Culligan has scored 56 goals, an average of more than three goals per game. She's already shattered her total from last year, when her 39 goals were more than double the total of Minnesota's second-leading scorer.
Following the graduation of four starters last spring, Culligan was elected team captain this season. She's adjusted to the role quite well.
"Being someone that players look up to and ask for help is a huge compliment to me," Culligan said. "I love helping my teammates in any way that I can."
With the regular season complete, Culligan is preparing to lead the Johnnies (10-4) -- and increase her goal total -- in the playoffs next week.
