Got a case of the Mondays? Hey, it happens. Let’s pause and remix.
Whether you’ve got a big game, intense workouts in the weight room, or both, music can set your mind right.
Goose Creek (S.C.) senior defensive end Gerald Turner lets us in on what music helps get him in the zone.
What's the role of music as part of your workout or pre-game routine?
Turner: I use music to zone everything out. It helps me concentrate on what I need to do instead of having my mind on other things. When I listen to music, I think about fighting through when I get tired.
What type of music do you listen to most often?
Rap. I like a mixture of new and old. My favorite rappers are Gucci Mane and Chief Keef.
Are you more of a fast-paced or slow-paced music type of guy?
Sometimes I listen to a slow pace to kind of relax, but I’m more into high-energy music, [especially] for workouts. We lift pretty intensely.
What’s the background music in the weight room?
Rap music like 2 Chainz and Future. [My teammates] and I all like the same type of music. Usually whatever is playing is OK — there’s no arguing.
What’s a good source for checking out new music?
I check out LiveMixtapes.com a lot. A mixtape can be one artists or it can be a lot of artists on one CD. It gets me really pumped up.
