Unveiling the Preseason Super 25 Rankings: 25-16

The wait is almost over. Ten teams have made their case to be named the No. 1 team in the preseason Super 25 boys' basketball rankings, and one school is already convinced it's the top dog. Today we'll unveil teams 25-6; tomorrow we'll unveil the Top 5. Until then, make your case for No. 1 team by tweeting @USATODAYhss.

25. Norcross (Ga.) (16-13)

Southern Miss commit Brandon Goodwin, a combo guard who averaged 15 points a game last season, is the top returning Blue Devil. Terrance O’Donohue, a senior 6-8 PF who is headed to Charleston, is a key transfer, along with two other transfers: 6-6 junior Lorenzo Carter, who is getting offers for Div. I offers for football and basketball; and 6-5 junior SG Andre Chatfield.

24. Gill St. Bernard’s (Gladstone, N.J.) (28-4)

State runner-up returns senior PG Jaren Sina (20.1 ppg, 8.4 apg), who is headed to Northwestern and 6-9 senior C Austin Colbert, who plans to sign with Illinois. The team also picked up talented 6-5 freshman SG Tyus Battle and senior transfer Chris Jenkins, a 6-4 SG who averaged 17 ppg last season at Beard (Morristown).

23. Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) (27-7)

The Eagles lost G Nate Britt to Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), but return 6-5 PF Kris Jenkins (19.8 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 4.0 apg), who is headed to Villanova. Gonzaga also returns sophomore 6-2 PG Bryant Crawford, who is already getting major D-1 offers. senior guards Tavon Blackman and Charles Glover and junior F Jordan Abdur-Ra’oof are also key returnees.

22. Rainier Beach (Seattle) (27-3)

The Vikings won the 3A title last season and return star guard 5-9 Marquis Davis (14.6 ppg), who also is a star RB for Rainier Beach’s football team, and PF Djuan Piper. The Vikings added elite transfer Shaqquan Aaron, a 6-8 PF from Taft (Woodland Hills, Calif.).

21. West (Iowa City) (26-0)

The Panthers won the 4A title and return several key players, including 6-1 PG Wyatt Lohaus (11.7 ppg, 2.6 apg) and 6-6 G Jeremy Morgan (14.8 ppg), both of whom are expected to sign with Northern Iowa.

20. DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) (30-5)

The Stags return 6-9 C BeeJay Anya (13.3 ppg, 10.5 rpg and 6.8 bpg), who was a player for USA Basketball’s U17 team over the summer. Two other key returnees are 6-1 G Jairus Lyles, who has committted to VCU and 6-5 SG Kelvin Howard. Sophomore Terrell Allen is a likely starter in the backcourt and freshman Joe Hampton, a 6-6 PF, will likely work his way into the lineup quickly.

19. St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) (35-3)

Syracuse commit PG Tyler Ennis (15.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg) leads a group that includes two 6-8 forwards in Pitt recruit Mike Young and Duquesne commit Isaiah Wakins. Sophomore G Isaiah Briscoe is already drawing attention from top schools.

18. DeSoto (Texas) (33-6)

Duke commit Matt Jones (18.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg), a 6-4 G, who is headed to Duke, leads the Eagles. Junior 6-6 F Terry Maston and junior 6-5 F Devin Wyatt are also key returnees. Takedrick Brown, a speedy 5-9 junior G, keeps the Eagles moving.

17. Salesian (Richmond, Calif.) (34-2)

California recruit Jabari Bird, a 6-6 G, averaged 18.7 ppg and 4.8 rpg last season while leading his team to the Div. IV state title. The Pride have three other Div. I guards in Markel Leonard, Jermaine Edmonds and Mario Dunn.

16. Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) (35-3)

Elite F Stanford Robinson has transferred to Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.), but nearly everyone else returns for the Panthers, including senior SF Jamal Robinson, who has said he will sign with Niagara. PF Marcus Derrickson, a 6-7 sophomore, already has a host of Div. I teams looking at him and a lot is also expected from sophomore PG Franklin Howard.
