THE WINNER: Alex Davis

THE BASICS

School: Plainview (Ardmore, Okla.)
Grade: Senior
Height: 5-foot-7

Athletic achievement: She raced to her second straight Class 3A individual state championship this past season with a time of 11:02 over the 3,200-meter course, breaking the tape 27 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor and leading the Indians to the state title as a team for the second year in a row. The state’s returning Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Davis placed fourth at the Foot Locker South Regional championships and 26th at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. She also took fifth in the Nike Cross Nationals South Regional championships and 38th at the 2012 Nike Cross Nationals Final.

Academic excellence: Davis has maintained a 3.74 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A member of the Plainview High student council, she has volunteered locally on behalf of a food bank, as a youth mentor and as part of a fundraiser to benefit the Mercy Memorial Cancer Center.

THE PRAISE

“Alex Davis had the best times all year,” said Laura Clay, head coach of Westmoore (Oklahoma City, Oka.). “She is a great runner and is very deserving.”

THE FUTURE: Davis has verbally committed to an athletic scholarship at Baylor University beginning this fall.
