North Dakota Girls Cross Country ROY: Brittany Brown Otter

THE WINNER: Brittany Brown Otter


School: Bismarck (N.D.)
Grade: Junior
Height: 5-foot-2
Athletic achievement: She raced the Class A individual state championship this past season with a time of 14:47.8, leading the Demons to the state title as a team. A three-time All-State qualifier, Brown Otter placed 13th at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional championships in 18:36.56. She ran seven regular-season meets, winning five and placing second at the Western Dakota Association Championships in addition to clocking the state’s top time at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational (12th overall).

Academic excellence: Also a track standout, Brown Otter has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: In addition to donating her time on behalf of her church’s youth group, she has volunteered at Bismarck’s elementary and middle school meets for the past three years.


“Brittany has shown a desire and passion to consistently improve each year in the cross country program, and because of the goals she has set for herself, she was rewarded with a team and individual championship in 2012,” said Bismarck head coach Scott Reichenberger. “She works as hard as anyone and is willing to sacrifice to accomplish her goals.”

THE FUTURE: Brown Otter will begin her senior year of high school next fall.
