Top safety Nick Glass on his recovery and the crazy recruiting game

Nick Glass is arguably the most feared safety in high school football, regardless of class.Glass, a junior at St. Pius X (Atlanta), is already committed to Georgia, but that hasn’t stopped other elite schools like Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Florida State and Notre Dame, among others, from staging an intense pursuit.Glass has agreed to give USA TODAY High School Sports exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

What’s up world!

I’ve got good news; I’m back to 100 percent. Well, sort of.

I told you guys last time about how I partially tore my meniscus and it definitely is feeling a whole lot better, but I just say that I’m 100 percent because that’s how I treat it at this point in the season. I’m just going hard, no matter what.

It’s one of those injuries that you’ve just got to give time to heal. I just don’t have the time to do that. Even after the season I have to get ready for the Georgia Junior Bowl. It’s something I’m playing in during our Christmas break. It’s for all of the top players in the state of Georgia so I’m really looking forward to that.

I’ve been going to every Georgia game. Y’all already know that! I love the atmosphere at the games. The fans show so much love; just coming up to me wanting me to take pictures with them and stuff like that. I try and keep everything in perspective though. I definitely don’t let things like that go to my head. I know that football can be taken away from me so I look at everything like that as a blessing.

Of course you guys know that other schools are still recruiting me hard. I feel like they come at me harder every week. Right now North Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, Alabama, UCLA and Ole Miss are coming at me really hard. They all email me every day and they stop by my school just to watch me. North Carolina stopped by the school last week.

I said in my last blog that I’m 95 percent committed to Georgia and that hasn’t changed, but I will say that I’m more open to hearing what the other schools are talking about now. It’s hard not to be impressed with them. Coach (Chris) Rumph at Alabama emailed me joking around asking me if I wanted to see the game plan that they had for Georgia. I thought that was pretty funny.

The coaches sell their schools so much; it’s hard not to like what they’re saying. So I’m just listening and taking it all in. I can’t lie; I kinda do feel a little more pressure now. Like take North Carolina for example, they don’t have any safeties and they play with three at all times. They only have two commits right now. That’s huge.

On my birthday, a few weeks back Ohio State sent me some pics of a cake that they had made for me. It said “Nick’s Birthday.” I thought that was cool. They told me that I was missing out on the party.

The recruiting game is crazy man.

I feel pretty good about how this season has gone for me. Coming into the season I wanted to improve on closing in on the ball and I feel like I’ve done a pretty good job improving there. One thing that I still need to get better with is blocking kicks. That’s something that I want to be good at. Something that I want to be known for because that’s a big play in a football game.

OK guys, I’ve gotta get going. Thanks again for reading and I’ll check you guys out on my next one.
