Nebraska Girls Cross Country ROY: Jeralyn Poe

THE WINNER: Jeralyn Poe


School: North Star (Lincoln, Neb.)
Grade: Sophomore
Height: 5-foot-5

Athletic achievement: She raced to her second straight Class A individual state championship this past season with a time of 14:42.6. The returning Gatorade Nebraska Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Poe was the fastest Nebraska competitor at the 2012 Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional championships, earning 37th place and crossing the line in 19:06.3.

Academic excellence: Poe has maintained an A average in the classroom.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally as a library aide and has also donated her time as part of an elementary literacy-outreach program.


“Jeralyn Poe continues to improve and grow as a runner all the time,” said North Star head coach Matt Musiel. “She had an even better fall season in 2012 than she did last year. Winning the All-Class gold with the fastest state meet time in all classifications was just the icing on the cake.”

THE FUTURE: Poe will begin her junior year of high school this fall.
