Glades Central (Belle Glade, Fla.) at Pahokee (Fla.), Friday
Even in a down year for both teams, the Muck Bowl is still the big game this week in western Palm Beach County. The area, known for its sugar cane and football players, turns this annual game into a party. Glades Central is 5-4 but has won five in a row. Pahokee is 4-4 and looking to pay back Glades Central for a 70-0 loss last season, its worst ever in the series.
Pike (Indianapolis) at Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) Friday, 5A regional playoff
Lawrence Central is 12-0, including a 34-23 defeat of Pike on Sept. 8 that took two days to finish because of heavy rains, but the Red Devils (9-3) have improved. Led by dual-threat quarterback Trent Lyles, they’ve won four in a row, including a 35-24 defeat of Ben Davis (Indianapolis), a team they lost to 24-0 in the regular season. The Bears average 38.2 points a game with quarterback Drake Christen, Alex Rodriguez and Isaiah Townsend all scoring double-digit touchdowns this season.
Millard South (Omaha, Neb.) at Millard North (Omaha, Neb.)
North (11-0) won the first meeting this season, 12-10 in the teams’ opener, but this time the game is a state Class A semifinal. North quarterback Isaac Aakre is always a threat to run. Led by dual-threat quarterback Anthony Cloyd, South (9-2) has won five in a row.
Rockford, Mich. at Clarkston, Mich., Saturday, Div. I regional
Clarkston is 12-0 and has outscored opponents 410-134 this season and has won its first two playoff games 76-19. Ian Eriksen ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns last week behind Clarkston’s punishing offensive line. Rockford (9-3) has won eight in a row and made it to the state semifinals the past two seasons.
Desert Vista (Phoenix) at Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), Friday, Div. I quarterfinal
The 9-2 teams met a month ago with Hamilton winning 23-13. However, Desert Vista defeated Hamilton 45-19 for the state championship, ending Hamilton’s then 53-game winning streak. The Huskies started the season 0-2 but have run the table since.
