Gone But Not Forgotten: Bolts Rookie Ingram Honors Father

San Diego linebacker has everything to prove in NFL

10:23 AM, Oct. 26, 2012 EDT

San Diego Chargers rookie linebacker Melvin Ingram always dreamed of playing in the NFL, so the former South Carolina star isn't taking his chance to live that dream lightly.

Ingram says he knows his father, who died of a heart attack in 1998, is watching in spirit every time he takes the field. The reminder is right there on his shoe, written carefully in black marker: "Gone But Not Forgotten."

After turning heads during the preseason with his quick burst and physical presence, Ingram is doing his part to ensure he isn't a forgotten member of this year's rookie class. Through five games, Ingram has 12 tackles and a forced fumble for the 3-3 Chargers. His dad would be proud.
