East Boston senior Pat Santos rebounded a missed free throw with 1 second left on the clock and made an incredible full-court shot to give the Jets a 43-42 win over Madison Park on Tuesday night.
“I just got it and shot it, there wasn’t even enough time to think; just get the ball and shoot that’s all,” Santos told the Boston Globe.
It was more of a desperation heave than a shot, but it counts the same and it was incredible.
Madison Park had taken the lead after junior Johnny Bowden was fouled while attempting a 3-pointer with 1 second to play and the game tied at 40. Bowden coolly sank the first two free throws before missing the third. Did Bowden intentionally miss? Only he knows, but it's a defensible strategy given the situation. In hindsight, it wasn't the right strategy.
“You see it on ESPN, but you never see anything [like that], that was an amazing shot,” first-year East Boston coach Shawn Brown said.
