Julius Randle is the top-ranked prospect in the Rivals150for 2013 and recently cut his list down to six – Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Florida and Oklahoma.Randle, a forward at Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas), has agreed to give USA TODAY High School Sports exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

Hey what’s going on everybody!

Hope everyone is doing good, things are going pretty good this way.

Most of you know that today is National Signing Day for us ball players, and I know that’s exciting for the guys that are signing today. I am waiting to sign in the spring because, as you probably already know, I haven’t picked a school yet.

In a way I wish I was signing today because it would definitely be a load off of me. I would know where I was going and I wouldn’t have to worry about anything but going hard for my senior year. That would be cool, but I think what I’m doing is the best way to go for me. I’m just taking my time with everything and waiting to see who all will be there when the season is over. I just think it’s the best way to go about it because things can change so much after the season with guys going into the NBA Draft or anything.

I know the guys who are signing today are excited though. That’s a big look, so congrats to them!

We’ve been going hard at practice for a few weeks now and we are looking really good. We’ll play a little different but we’ll be really good. I didn’t know what to expect because we had a lot of new guys, but I’m really liking our team.

Last year we had a lot more size and we were a little more athletic, but this year even though we’re not as big we’ve got guys who can really shoot. I mean REALLY shoot!

Of course I love that because the floor will be spaced out really well. The more spacing for me, the better. Then the other thing I really like is that these dudes don’t back down to anyone. They go at me hard in practice and I love that.

By now you guys know that we lost Mickey Mitchell, which was just bad on so many different levels.

To be honest, I don’t even care about basketball I just hate the situation for him. I know how much he loves to play and I wish he could be out there with us. I know it’s gonna be hard for him.

I still think that our team will be tough. Mickey’s a big loss, but we’re staying focused and we’ve got some really good chemistry so I think we’ll be fine.

Other than that, school is going great so far. I’ve got A’s and B’s, but I’m trying to stay on top of everything because we have a heavy travel schedule this year for basketball.

You know grades come first in my house, especially with my mom!

The recruitment is going pretty good too.

It’s funny I was going to Texas to meet up with my boy Ishmail Wainright on the weekend of October 19, but the night before he ended up committing to Baylor. I went anyway though and had a good time.

I’ve got friends on the team there at Texas like my boy Prince Ibeh, and me and Myck Kabongo are real cool too.

I’ve been there so much it’s pretty normal to me. I love it there at Texas. I went to Oklahoma a few weeks back for their football game against Notre Dame and that was pretty cool.

When I got there I got to watch the basketball team scrimmage at their Crimson and White game. After that I chilled with the players and went to the football game. It was cold that day so I went and bought some Oklahoma gear to keep warm. I think some people were reading a little bit into that, but I had to keep warm so hey...

The game was good by the time I left in the third quarter, but after that Oklahoma got smacked.

It was a really good visit though. I got to see a lot of my friends from my school who went to Oklahoma, so that was cool. I think I’ll probably go back to Oklahoma for a game since I didn’t get that much time there. The guys on the team are hilarious. I had a good time trippin’ out with them and hanging.

Of course I keep in touch with most of the coaches recruiting me pretty regular. I talk to Coach (John) Calipari from time to time, but I really keep in touch with the assistants like Kenny Payne. He’s my man. Him and Coach O (Orlando Antigua).

I think I probably talk to coaches from Kentucky, Texas and Florida the most. I talk to N.C. State a good amount too.

Right now, that’s the next visit I have scheduled on January 26 when they play North Carolina. I can’t wait for that. I know it’s gonna be live down there. I’ll tell you right now, I’ve got N.C. State winning that all day. The Wolfpack looks tough this season.

I talk to my boy Rodney (Purvis) all the time and he talks to me about State, but mostly we just trip out. As far as players on the teams recruiting me, I talk to Rod and Prince the most, I’d say.

Those are my brothers.

I’ll definitely be watching a lot of college basketball this year. I love college hoops. I grew up a Texas fan watching LaMarcus Aldridge, Daniel Gibson, Kevin Durant, all those guys.

That Florida-Georgetown game on the aircraft carrier was crazy.

I think that would be fun just for the whole experience of it, but I don’t know how much it would affect your play. I remember watching Carolina play on it last year and it seemed like it would be hard to play on that.

A lot of people have been talking about the high school player rankings changing and things like that, but I promise you guys I don’t care about any of that stuff. None of that matters, and that’s something I’ve always said even when I was No. 1.

Whenever I play against anyone I’m going hard. No ranking will matter to me. My goal is the same – dominate.

Oh, something else that was pretty cool was I had to do a magazine signing at Barnes & Noble recently because I was on the cover of Texas Preps Basketball Magazine. It was interesting. I was surprised that the line was pretty long. A lot of kids from my school and fans from around the area came out.

It was cool.

Well, I’ve got to get back to studying so I’m gonna head out. We’ve got our first game coming up soon so you guys wish me luck and check back soon here for my next entry. I’ll keep you guys updated on everything with the season and my recruitment.

Check you later.
