Fan charged with assaulting football player from rival HS after Thanksgiving game

The Delaware County (Pa.) Daily Times reports that 22-year-old David Gillen was arrested for allegedly assaulting a Ridley (Folsom, Pa.) High School football player after a Thanksgiving Day game against Interboro (Prospect Park, Pa.).

According to an affidavit obtained by the Daily Times, Gillen, a 2010 graduate and former standout wrestler at Interboro, approached a group of Ridley players as they left the field following a 12-0 loss.

"Happy Thanksgiving, Ridley," Gillen allegedly shouted before throwing a player to the ground, punching him several times and attempting to remove his facemask.

The affidavit indicates that Gillen smelled of alcohol and "was obnoxious."
