Laraine Cook was fired as the girls basketball coach at Pocatello (Idaho) High School in October for a photo she posted to Facebook in July. The photo showed Cook in a bikini and her boyfriend, Pocatello football coach Tom Harrison, grabbing her chest.
The school district fired Cook two weeks prior to the start of the season. Harrison told the Idaho State Journal that he was reprimanded, but was allowed to remain Pocatello's football coach. The school district stood by its decision even after Cook removed the photo and parents of Pocatello players came to Cook's defense.
"We believe she's an awesome coach," Dave Reichelt told KPVI News 6. "We think she's a great influence on our daughters. Did she make some bad choices? Yeah. Did she post something that shouldn't have been posted? Yeah. But I think she received it in a lot of humility. Being so close to the season it's not fair to her. And it's definitely not fair to our daughters playing basketball for Pocatello High School to have this situation happen so fast."
Earlier this week, Cook spoke publicly about her firing for the first time with Local News 8.
"I wouldn't be doing anything that I would deem immoral, or not right, or inappropriate, and I definitely would not ever put something like that on my Facebook account," she said.
Cook told the station that she lost her job while her boyfriend was only reprimanded because she is the one who posted the photo to Facebook.
"In my personal opinion, I do not feel that that photo is something to have me terminated on," Cook said. "I don't feel it's an immoral photo and that's what the termination is based on."
