Some dogs are adorable. Some dogs are incredible. The best dogs, though, are adorable and incredible.
Churchill (San Antonio) freshman swimmer Ben Ownby's dog Dakota certainly falls into this category, as chronicled in a story on MySanAntonio.com.
Ownby, who was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when he was 17 months old, must inject insulin seven to eight times a day. Complicating matters, Ownby is allergic to adhesives, which prevents him from wearing an automated monitor or insulin pump.

Enter Dakota. By smelling Ownby's breath or sweat, Dakota can tell wheter Ownby's blood-sugar levels are too high, too low, or just right. If need be, he'll alert Ownby to check his levels.
Thanks to Deadspin for the heads up.
