When Wharton (Texas) played at Bellville (Texas) on Friday night there was something noticeably absent from the visitor's sideline: cheerleaders.
KHOU.com reports that Wharton's cheerleaders were benched for putting condoms in goody bags, which are given to varsity football players before games.
The district determined that the act was a violation of the student code of conduct. In addition to being prohibited from attending Friday's game at Bellville, KHOU reports that members of the team served a one-day, in-school suspension.
“If they did that, it was just a joke,” parent Teresa Holmes told KHOU. “They need to go on with that and let children be children.”
The Wharton cheerleading team will return to the sideline for Friday's game against Royal.
