James Monroe (Fredericksburg, Va.) lost to Brookville (Timberlake), 24-14, in the Group AA, Division 3 state title game on Saturday, but the Yellow Jackets went down fighting -- and in style.
Trailing 24-7 and facing 3rd-and-22 late in the fourth quarter, James Monroe quarterback Jay Scroggins threw a pass over the middle. The pass was high -- very high -- but James Monroe wide receiver Byran Johnson somehow managed to leap and haul it in with one hand.
The incredible play went for a first down and led to a Yellow Jackets touchdown. It wasn't enough in the end, but it was a catch that Johnson won't soon forget.
Thanks to Prep Rally for the heads up.
