Boy denied spot on high school girls volleyball team

Jenson Daniel played for the team last season

Jenson Daniel, a 17-year-old boy, denied by Section 1 in his bid to return to the Yonkers High School girls volleyball team for this season, has lost an appeal.

Daniel reported the rejection in a text message to The Journal News/LoHud.com early today.

Daniel had qualified to play in the Bulldogs' final five matches of the season last year. But after this year’s physical, section officials said the 5-foot-11, 145-pound senior was too strong to keep playing with the girls.

The school appealed the ruling but has now lost.

Yonkers was 14-3 last year but lost in the Section 1 Class A quarterfinals.

In Daniel’s five matches, the Bulldogs went 3-2, including their playoff loss.
