Daily Dose: Star running back talks favorite music

Hermitage (Henrico, Va.) star running back Derrick Green is keeping the college football recruiting world on its toes as he narrows his college choices.

And while Green’s undecided about Michigan, Tennessee, Auburn, Miami, Oregon and Ole Miss., there’s no questioning his music preferences. He told us so.

Who is your favorite artist?
Green:
My favorite rapper is Jay-Z. I listen to him before every game. I like his flow and the way he raps. I like the back-in-the-day Jay-Z, songs from when he was just getting started like “On to the Next One” and “99 Problems”.

What about in the weight room? Who takes over?
For weight lifting, I like up-tempo music by Chief Keef or Jadakiss. Jadakiss has a lot of songs with beats that just get you fired up and ready to workout. His beats go with the flow [of a workout]. The faster the music, the harder you’re going to try to get after it in the weight room.

Who else is spinning on your playlist?
This new age of music is irrelevant stuff. I was born and raised in New York, and my dad had me on old school music, so that’s what I’m stuck on now. I like a little bit of Biggie and Big Pun. My favorite songs by Biggie are “Notorious” and “Juicy”.

Do any female artists get your attention?
I like Beyonce. Rihanna can sing, and she’s bad as well — her swag, she’s a cool girl. Keyshia Cole and Swizz Beats together are real cool.
