The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's Board of Control voted Thursday to move four schools from the proposed 2013-17 districts that were announced last week.
Two were area schools, as Fairview and Lewis County will compete in District 11-AA after spending the previous classification period in District 12-AA.
Loudon in East Tennessee will go from its proposed 5-AA to 4-AA and Tellico Plains in East Tennessee will go from 5-A to 3-A.
There were several schools that requested to change districts but were not approved.
The board had plenty of chances to deal with District 12-AA. Christ Presbyterian Academy had hoped to move back to the Nashville-based District 10-AA where it has spent the current classification period. A motion to that affect was denied.
CPA released a statement saying:
"We have been competing with Nashville teams in district play for 20 years, since we first joined the TSSAA in 1992, and (this) decision will mean an adjustment for our teams and families. However, we will continue to coach well, compete hard, and forge relationships with the schools in this new district, as we have in our previous two decades in TSSAA."
The board voted Thursday to move Fairview to District 9-AA before voting again and moving the Williamson County school to 11-AA.
"Once the proposed districts came out, we looked at 9-AA and saw a lot of our old rivals -- Harpeth, Cheatham County and Sycamore are all really close to us," Fairview athletics director Ricky Jones said. "We wanted to get back to some of our old rivalries, and we were told if we were going to get moved, it would probably be to 9-AA. But we're pleased with 11-AA."
District 12-AA will be a six-team league with Cascade, CPA, Giles County, Marshall County, Page and Spring Hill.
The district currently has nine schools -- East Hickman, Fairview, Giles County, Hickman County, Lewis County, Marshall County, Page, Spring Hill and Summit. However, Summit will be Class AAA next year, and Hickman County and East Hickman were moved to 11-AA.
"With Hickman County and East Hickman leaving, we'd be driving right by those to get to Fairview," said Lewis County's Bryan True, a member of the Board of Control. "We requested months ago to go to 11-AA."
Cascade, which is being moved up to Class AA, had requested to play in the Chattanooga-based District 7-AA rather than 12-AA. A motion to shift the Bedford County school died for lack of a second.
Goodpasture and Red Boiling Springs had lobbied for moves from their assigned spots in District 8-A. Motions for Red Boiling Springs to move to 7-A and for Goodpasture to move to 10-A were denied.
"The board voted where we'd play, and we're going to respect their decision," Goodpasture Athletics Director Clint Parnell said. "We're going to do the best we can where we are."
For the next classification period, there will only be one instance of two districts grouped together as a region for football -- Districts 1-A and 2A. The districts that have comprised Region 4-A and Region 6-A in Middle Tennessee will play separately for the next period as Districts 7-A, 8-A, 11-A and 12-A.
"The board's rationale has been that if you have three teams, you can have your own district," TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress said. "But we had a request from those districts at that time (to play as a region) in order to get more guaranteed games.
"This time, they have indicated that they wanted to play as a district."
