Franklin Road Academy football coach Bill Whittemore has been named the school's interim athletics director.
He replaces Kurt Page, who is set to work with FRA head of schools Sissy Wade on special projects.
Wade wrote in an email that Page was pursuing a return to coaching.
"It's my understanding it's a transition," said Whittemore, who turned 32 on Monday. "A search committee will be put together toward spring to see who's interested."
Asked if he would have interest in the role on a permanent basis, Whittemore said: "I don't know. I'm excited for this opportunity to see if I would be. It's a good opportunity for me to evaluate where I am and what I need to focus on. We've got a good athletic staff, a good group of coaches. It's going to be fun to work with them."
In Whittemore's first season as football coach, the Panthers finished 6-5 with a loss to St. George's in the Division II-A quarterfinals.
Page, a former Father Ryan and Vanderbilt quarterback who coached at Battle Ground Academy and Ryan, has served as FRA's athletics director since 2008.
Page did not return a phone call seeking comment.
"Kurt led us through important improvements in our athletics program, including building projects and the transition to Division II in athletics, among others," Wade wrote in an e-mail. "He has continued the fine tradition of FRA athletics."
