The defending champion Christ Presbyterian Academy girls scored 10 unanswered fourth-quarter points in a 47-42 Class AA sectional win at Page on Saturday.
"We didn't want this to be our last game," senior post Lauren Thompson said after scoring a game-high 18 points and going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. "At the half, we said, 'There's no way we can lose this game.' We knew we had to step it up and we did, and I think that's why we pulled it out."
The Lady Lions (27-7) will find out their quarterfinal state tournament foe when draws are done today in Murfreesboro.
Page (28-5) led 30-29 and held the ball for the final shot in the third quarter but was unsuccessful.
"With them holding it at the end of the third, we felt like if we could get into the fourth quarter down one, we were in good shape," CPA coach Becky LeGate said.
After a Cat Taylor 3-pointer gave Page a 33-29 lead, CPA's Faith LeGate and Thompson combined for three field goals and four free throws to make it a 39-33 game with 3½ minutes left.
"Thompson's a difference-maker," Page coach Billy Mooney said. "When you've got two 'bigs' as good as they are, they make you do things you don't normally do."
Page, which had won 20 straight, had to foul late, and CPA hit 6 of 8 free throws in the final 1:08.
"Our loss to Macon County (Region 5-AA final) was really good for us because we knew the atmosphere was going to be like this," Becky LeGate said.
Faith LeGate and Meredith Roman scored 12 each for the Lady Lions.
Taylor finished with 18 points for Page, which lost 53-44 at CPA in last year's sectional.
Cannon Co. 57, McMinn Central 56: Abby Jakes hit a 3-pointer with no time left for Cannon County (28-6). Abbey Sissom scored 17 points for Cannon County.
Macon Co. 62, Creek Wood 48: Kailyn Brooks scored 16 points for Macon County (28-4). Lamarra Gordon and Rachel Bell scored 16 each for Creek Wood (27-5).
Livingston Ac. 72, East Hamilton 54: Marlee Sells scored 23 points for Livingston Academy (30-6).
